Number Sense - Key to Success in Math

One-to-One Correspondence is an essential construct for all math. Without it, math will never make sense. Spend lots of time with these activities. Choose ones that work for you and your child. When your child can independently do at least four of the activities correctly, he is considered "competent" and ready to move on to "Counting from 1 to 10". Continue to offer these activities. He may want to revisit them.

Remember, to always work from the concrete to the abstract. You may revisit activities from the list above. Count as you do the activities  All of the following activities are designed to assist your child in creating a strong number sense. Choose activities that suit you and your child. Do many activities, many times. When your child is competent (can do numerous activities independently), start to offer activities from "Counting Beyond Ten"
